Digital Valve

A Digital Valve is an array of parallel arranged flow restrictors-typically sonic nozzles or orifices-each of which operates in an on/off state. (flow, no-flow) Since the pressure drop is the same for all of the flow restrictors, an active element will flow at a rate proportional to the restrictor area. Since each element is one half the size of the next, the flow is said to be "digitized" in a binary fashion. The flow is adjusted by simply activating the right combination of elements. This is applicable to fluids and gases.
